Four Goal 2nd Half Leads Lady Pioneers Past Wells

Four 2nd half goals helped lift the Alfred State women's soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Wells College on Wednesday night. McKenzie Miller (Belfast) and Kali Muhleisen (Alfred Almond) both scored twice as the Lady Pioneers won their third straight contest.

Miller got the Lady Pioneers on the board at 8:57 into the game when her free kick found the corner of the net. The goal was the first for Miller on the season. Sarah Halstead tied it up for Wells in the 37th minute after getting a pass from Yanna Ososkalo.

After halftime, Alfred State dominated play. Muhleisen's first goal of the game came in the 55th minute after getting a lead pass from Alexis Flint (Arkport) that led to a break on the goalie.

Miller made it 3-1 just over eight minutes later when her long shot snuck over the goalkeepers head. Muhleisen added her second goal in the 69th minute after getting a long lead pass from Allison Danielak (Brockport).

Haley Vosburg (Fillmore) capped the scoring in the 80th minute when she found the back of the net after a pass from Anna Rath (Medina).

Alfred St. held a 25 to 7 shot advantage in the contest (18 to 4 shots on goal). Danielak made three saves to earn the victory including stopping a penalty kick in the later stages of the 2nd half.

The blue & gold (3-2) return to action on Saturday when they host SUNY Cobleskill at Noon.
