Falcons Score Three in the 2nd to Advance

Florida College scored three goals in the 2nd half to earn a 3-0 victory over Alfred State in the USCAA National Championship quarterfinals. The Falcons advance to Friday's semifinals while the Lady Pioneers will play in a consolation game.

After a scoreless first half in which both teams had opportunities to get on the board, the Falcons didn't waste much time as Jessica Webb scored 31 seconds into the half. Michelle Rodriguez was credited with the assist. Sara Webster made it 2-0, 3:08 into the 2nd half when her corner kick crept over the goal line. Rodriguez added an insurance goal in the 65th minute after getting a long pass from Ashley Baker.

Alfred State outshot Florida 14-12 on the game. Hayle Hales made six saves to record the shutout while Allison Danielak (Brockport) made seven saves for Alfred State.

The game was played in a variety of weather conditions. Heavy rain and hail was falling early in the game, sun peaked through the clouds for most of the middle of the game, and the last three minutes of the contest were cancelled due to a thunderstorm rolling into the vicinity.

Florida advances to play the winner of the #1 Maine Fort Kent/#8 WV Tech on Friday at 5 p.m. Alfred State will play the loser of the same contest at Noon on Friday.
