Alvardo Nets Hat Trick in Season Opener

Six different players scored as Keuka defeated Alfred State 11-3 in the season opener for both teams. Teddy Alvarado (Hilton) netted a hat trick to account for all of the Pioneers scoring.

Alvardo scored his first of the game with 12:50 left in the 1st quarter before Keuka went on 4-0 run over the next eighteen minutes to gain a 5-1 lead. Alvardo scored again with 9:00 remaining in th 1st half but the Pioneers would never get any closer. Keuka led 6-2 at half and scored the lone goal in the 3rd quarter.

Keuka expanded their lead with two early goals in the 4th before Alvardo capped his hat trick with 11:54 remaining in the contest. AJ Soto (Churchville Chili) was credited with the assist. The Wolves scored the final two goals of the contest to ice the game.

Craig Gerhardt and Mark Shattuck both finished with three goals and an assist for Keuka while Matt Mahalick had two goals and an assist. 

Keuka outshot the Pioneers 33 to 20 on the day. Ryan Amidon (Fayetteville Manlius) made 11 savesin net for the Pioneers while Ryan Mavretish made seven for the Wolves.

Alfred State was 26 out of 34 in their clear attempts, won 8 of 18 faceoffs, and grabbed 39 ground balls while Keuka was 26 for 32 in clears and grabbed 47 ground balls.

The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday when they open up their home slate with a 4 p.m. contest vs. Wells.
