Buck Records Seven Points

Aaron Buck (Churchville) recorded seven points as the Alfred State lacrosse team battled Cazenovia on Tuesday. The Pioneers fell behind early and never could bounce all the way back in the 15-11 loss to the Wildcats (2-1).

Cazenovia jumped out to a 5-0 lead and led 6-3 at the end of the 1st quarter. The Pioneers and the Wildcats both scored three times each in the 2nd and Caz went into the break with a 9-6 advantage. The Wildcats added to their lead in the 3rd outscoring the Pioneers 5 to 2. Alfred State outscored Cazenovia 3 to 1 in the 4th but never could closer than a four goals.

Buck finished the day with four goals and three assists while Teddy Alvardo (Hilton) finished with three goals and two assists. Joe Johnson (Churchville) scored twice, Ian Grana (Greece Odyssey) recorded a goal and an assist, Kyle Hoke (Tully) scored his first goal of the season, and AJ Soto (Churchville) passed out an assist.

Tanner Morrow (Grand Island) was 16 of 28 in the faceoff circle and Ryan Amidon (Fayetteville Manlius) made seven saves in net.

Joe Timm led Cazenovia with five goals and one assist while Brandon Maxon finished with two goals and five assists. Eric Hanover found the back of the net four times. In net Alex Delevan and Logan Blount both made six saves in a half of work.

The Pioneers outshot the Wildcats 33 to 31 in the contest but were only 2 of 12 with the extra man. Cazenovia was 21 of 29 on clear attempts and forced the Pioneers into 25 turnovers.

The Pioneers are back at Pioneer Stadium on Saturday when they host Hilbert a 2 p.m.
