North Central Downs Pioneers in Myrtle

Alfred State fell behind 3-0 in the 1st quarter and never could overcome the early deficit in a 13-6 loss to North Central College in a contest played at Ashley Booth Field in Myrtle Beach, SC.

The Cardinals scored the only three goals of the 1st quarter to take the quick lead. North Central would lead 7-1 before the Pioneers cut the lead to 7-3 at half and scored the first goal of the 3rd quarter to cut it to a 7-4 contest. The teams traded goals in the rest of the 3rd and NCC headed to the final stanza with a three-goal lead. Danny Boyle scored his 4th of his five goals early in the 4th and the Pioneers couldn't mount the comeback as the Cardinals outscored the Pioneers 5-1 to close the game.

Aaron Buck (Churchville) led the Pioneers with a pair of goals and assist while Teddy Alvarado (Hilton) found the back of the twice. Joe Johnson (Churchville) had a goal and an assist, AJ Soto (Churchville) scored once, and Ian Grana (Greece Odyssey) and Branden Dickson (Bath) both picked up an assist. Tanner Morrow (Grand Island) led the team with seven ground balls.

Boyle finished with five goals to lead the Cardinals (4-0). Tommy Huzinga finished with a hat trick and an assist and Noah Parrill had a pair of goals and a pair of assists.

NCC outshot Alfred State 45 to 26 in the contest and limited the Pioneers to 10 out of 18 clear attempts. Neither team was real successful with the man-up. The Pioneers were 1 of 11 while the Cardinals were 2 of 11.

The Pioneers return home on Wednesday when they battle Cazenovia at Pioneer Stadium - please note game might get moved to Tuesday due to forecast for Wednesday.
