Buck Nets Six in Battle with Hiram

Aaron Buck (Churchville) scored six goals and passed out two assists in a back and forth battle with Hiram. The Terriers outscored Alfred State 5 to 3 in both the 3rd and 4th quarters to earn the 16-12 victory.

Hiram jumped out to a 4-1 but Buck, Joe Johnson (Churchville) and Teddy Alvarado (Hilton) scored to tie it up. After two goals by the Terriers, Alvado and Buck scored in the final 2:22 of the half to send the game into halftime tied at 6-6.

With the game tied at 8-8, Hiram scored seven of the next eight goals to grab a 15-10 lead with just 6:56 remaining in the game. Buck scored twice from Alvarado to cut the lead back to three but the Pioneers could not get any closer.

Buck finished with six goals and two assists on 19 shots. Alvarado finished with three goals and three assists and Johnson found the back of the net three times. Tanner Morrow (Grand Island) won 19 of 26 faceoffs and led the team with 15 ground balls.

Tim Stucky scored six goals to lead Hiram while Hunter Jenkins finished with two goals and three assists. Seven different Terriers scored in the contest.

The Pioneers outshot the Terriers 51 to 30 in the game. Liam Osborne made 16 saves to earn the win while Ryan Amidon (Fayetteville Manlius) made seven saves for the Pioneers.

The blue & gold was 2 for 5 in extra man opportunities and picked up ten more ground balls, 48-38. 

The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday when they host Hiram at 5 p.m.
