Hilbert Downs Pioneers to Claim AMCC Showcase Title

Hilbert scored the first six goals and stymied any Alfred State attempts to rally to earn a 13-3 victory in the AMCC Showcase Finals.

Hilbert led 2-0 after the 1st quarter and led 6-0 before the Pioneers got on the board with a pair of goals. Landon Drumm (Tully) and Joe Johnson (Churchville) scored to cut the lead to four, 6-2. A big save by Adam Zawadzki in the closing minute of the half led to a goal by Marc O'Neill to give the Hawks a 7-2 lead at the break.

Alvarado scored with the extra man in the first minute of the 3rd quarter but the blue & gold would not get any closer. The Pioneers had a three-minute extra man opportunity in the quarter but was unable to capitalize.

The Hawks led 10-3 after the 3rd quarter and outscored the Pioneers 3-0 in the 4th to earn the victory.

Drum, Johnson, and Alvarado all scored once for Alfred State while Ryan Amidon (Fayetteville Manlius) made 14 saves in net. Tanner Morrow (Grand Island) led the team with seven ground balls.

O'Neil recorded a hat trick while Matthew Simon, Nathaniel Hyman, Austin Laine, and Edward Mathias all scored twice. Zawadski made 11 saves in net for the Hawks (10-6).

Hilbert outshot the Pioneers 46 to 23 in the contest and forced the blue & gold into 28 turnovers. Both teams were 2 for 10 with the extra man in the contest.

The Pioneers finish the 2017 season with a 8-10 overall record. The team won seven of their last nine games and set a new standard for victories in a season during the NCAA Division III era.
