Pioneers Dropped Season Finale

Alfred, NY- The Alfred State softball team dropped the season finale doubleheader against Mt. Aloysius. The Pioneers dropped the game one 8-0, then fell in game two 15-10.

 

In game two, Lauryn Engle and Madigan Harris went 3-5 at the plate, with Engle tallying two doubles.

 

The Mounties got on the board first with four runs and the Pioneers answered with four runs of their own. With one out, McKinlee Harris notched a single to center field. Two batters later, Engle notched an RBI double to right center. Then Engle would score on an RBI single from Madigan Harris. The Pioneers would then get two walks to load the bases and Abby Beidel tallied an RBI on a walk. Olivia Kratts then tied the game at 4-4 with an RBI on a fielder's choice.

 

MTA regained the lead in the second and the Pios retied the game at 5-5 in the third. With one out, Adriana DuVal singled to center and stole second a few plays later. Kratts followed with a single to put runners on the corners, then stole second a few pitches later. Then an RBI single from Audrey Farrell tied the game at 5-5. Later in the fourth, DuVal notched and RBI single to cut into the Mounties lead.

 

Aloysius kept adding runs to their lead, but the Pioneers tried to rally in the sixth. With one out, Engle notched a single to right field, then Ma. Harris followed with a single to right field. The Pios would score two runs on an RBI single from Abby Marinelli and an error. Then an RBI on a groundout from DuVal cut the lead down to 11-9. The Mounties scored four runs in the seventh and the Pioneers could only get one across in the seventh from an Engle double.

 

Mt. Aloysius made a late rally in the first game to get the win
