Pioneers Continue Win Streak

Alfred, NY - The Alfred State Softball team took two wins over SUNY Delhi this afternoon in a non-conference double header. In game 1, the Pioneers won 10-1 and 10-5 in game 2. Alfred State Softball is now 15-18 on the season and 6-10 in the conference.

In Game 1:

Adriana DuVal pitched 5.0 innings, only allowing five total hits and throwing three strikeouts. Audrey Farrell, Caley Larsen, Lauryn Engle, Madigan Harris, and Abigail Marinelli all went 2-3 at the plate, with each contributing at least one RBI. Abby Beidel had three RBI on the day while all nine Pioneers had at least one hit.

The Pioneers were off to a hot start, with Engle opening the scoring by doubling to left field and Madigan Harris immediately following with a single to plate Larsen. Beidel added two more runs to end the first inning off a single that rounded Harris and Engle in. With no response from the Broncos, Alfred State took advantage and put six more runs on the board in just the second inning. Larsen and Marinelli each had a double to center field while Farrell contributed a single for an Olivia Kratts score. SUNY Delhi put one run on the board in the top of the fifth, but the Pioneers had solidified the win early and ended the game in five innings.

In Game 2:

Hailee Smith got the start on the mount, pitching a complete game and throwing 64 strikes. Lauryn Engle, batting 2-4, and Abigail Marinelli, batting 2-3, each had a triple for the Pioneers. Olivia Kratts also went 3-4 at the plate with Audrey Farrell leading the Pioneers with three RBI. Alfred State had 10 runs on 12 hits to grab the win.

Continuing the heater at the plate, Engle opened scoring for Alfred State by tripling to right field to plate Caley Larsen. The Pioneers added three more runs in the second inning before scoring two more in the bottom of the third to take a 6-0 lead. The Broncos responded with three runs in the top of the sixth, but Engle quickly silenced them by singling to right center for a Larsen score once again. Marinelli then tripled to plate Engle. Alfred State would add two more runs to solidify the lead before Delhi made one more attempt at scoring by putting two runs on the board. However, the Pioneers stopped the scoring from continuing to secure the 10-5 win.
