Women’s Basketball remains undefeated in AMCC with win over Hilbert

The Alfred State College Pioneers women's basketball team remain undefeated in conference play and extend their win streak to three games after defeating the Hilbert College Hawks 65-46 Saturday evening inside Orvis Gymnasium.

The Pioneers improve to 7-3 overall and 4-0 in the AMCC while the Hawks fall to 1-11 and 0-4 in the conference. Alfred State out-rebounded Hilbert 50-40, shot 40.3% and recorded 18 assists.

Emily Kelley (Andover) recorded her seventh double-double of the season after leading the team with 19 points and ten rebounds and added three assists and two blocks. Skylar Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) double-doubled with 16 points and a team-high 12 rebounds and had three assists. My'ana Davis (Greece Athena) logged 17 points, four assists and two steals.

Alfred State out-scored Hilbert 21-9 in the first quarter but the Hawks out-paced the Pioneers 17-14 in the second and 13-7 in the third quarter to trail 42-39 heading into the final quarter.

The Pioneers started the fourth quarter with a 16-0 run for a 58-39 lead with 4:16 remaining. Alfred State held Hilbert to just seven points in the last quarter and scored a game-high 23 points for the 19-point win.

Alfred State is back in action Thursday, Dec. 30 to play at Nazareth at 4 p.m.
