Late Goal Lifts Lady Pioneers to Fifth Straight Victory

Kaitlin Huyler (Jasper Trousburg) scored with 2:57 remaining to break a 2-2 and lift Alfred State to a 3-2 victory over Medaille on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Pioneers, winners of five straight, are 5-2 on the season.

Alfred St. had chances early in the contest but could not capitalize. Medaille took a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute on a goal by Kalyn Compeau (assisted by MarceAnn Dunning).

McKenzie Miller (Belfast) tied it in the 55th minute after getting a pass from Haley Vosburg (Fillmore). Allison Vargeson (Addison) was credited with the secondary assist.

Kali Muhleisen (Alfred Almond) gave the Pioneers their first lead in the game in the 72nd minute when she headed in a crossing pass from Alexis Flint (Arkport). The goal was Muhleisen's team leading 8th of the season.

Candis Kapuscinski answered right back in the 74th minute after getting a long pass from Compeau before Huyler scored the game winner.

The Lady Pioneers held a 24-12 shot advantage (16 to 7 on goal). Allison Danielak (Brockport) made five saves in net to earn the win while Morgan Howe made 13 for the Mavericks.

Alfred State has almost a week off before returning to action on Saturday vs. Fairmont State (1 p.m. start).
