Four Different Pioneers Score in Opening Night Victory

Four different Pioneers scored as the Alfred State women's soccer team defeated SUNY Delhi 4-1 in their 2017 season opener. The blue & gold scored three goals in a span of 2:14 to erase an early deficit.

Devin Baratto scored in the 24th minute (23:09) when she received a pass from Katie Herba after the initial shot was saved. 

The Pioneers tied the game up in the closing seconds of the 1st half. Dannielle O'Buckley (Jamaica/Ansbach) scored on a long shot to the far corner with just 8.7 seconds remaining. After the halftime break, the blue & gold continued the pressure with two goals in the first 2:06 of the half. Darien Hooker (Canisteo Greenwood) scored after getting a pass from Melissa Mineti (Livonia) 1:03 into the half and Brooke Geibel (Arkport) scored 1:03 later after getting a pass from Sarah Williams (Caledonia Mumford).

Julia Yanarella (Wappingers Falls/Roy Ketcham) capped a solid 2nd half of play with a goal in the 69th minute after getting a pretty pass from Carissa Pompa (Rochester/Mercy). 

The Pioneers held a 24 to 4 shot advantage in the game. Allison Danielak (Brockport) made two saves to record the victory in her first start of her senior year.

Alfred State hits the road for the first time on Sunday when they travel to SUNY Cobleskill for a 3:30 p.m. start.
