The Alfred State athletic department is excited to announce that the 6th annual Special Olympics Track & Field Spectacular will be held on May 4th at Pioneer Stadium. The event is part of the NCAA DIII partnership with Special Olympics and has become a highly anticipated day.
The event will feature over 200 athletes from local schools competing in track events (400 m, 200 m, 100 m , 50 m, 25 m, and relays) and field events (shot put, softball throw, long jump, and standing long jump). Every participant can compete in one running event and one field event. Action begins at 9:45 a.m. with an Olympic style Opening Ceremonies. The events will begin around 10:15 a.m. Awards for each of the heats of the events will be given out right after the competition of the event.
Student-athletes, coaches, and members of the college community will help run the events. This year members of the Alfred University student-athlete advisory committee will also be assisting with the hopes of adding a second special olympics event in the near future.
The public is invited to come cheer on these athletes and enjoy the competition.
