Pioneers Swim Past Buff State in Opener

The men's swimming & diving team opened up the 2021-22 season with a 181-88 victory over Buffalo State on Saturday afternoon. Westin Perry (Canisteo Greenwood), Stuart Yates (Naples), and Kellen Fletcher (Wrightstown, NJ) were all double individual event winners.

Perry won the 100 back in 54.06 and the 100 free in 48.93, Yates won the 100 breast in 59.59 and won the 200 breast in 2:26.10, and Fletcher won the 200 free in 1:52.98 and the 200 fly in 2:05.39

Other top performances included:

  • Riley Hoyt (Tulsa, OK) won the 1,000 free in 11:07.60 and was 2nd in the 100 breast (1:08.40)
  • Henry Schafer (Warsaw/Notre Dame) won the 500 free in 5:19.28 and was 2nd in the 1,000 free (11:11.16)
  • Luca Aldewereld (Cleveland, OH) won the 50 free in 22.14 and was 2nd in the 100 free (49.54)
  • Brianna Dixon (Brentwood, NH) won the 200 back in 2:03.79 and was 2nd in the 100 back (56.82)
  • Collin Vimislik (Fairport) was 2nd in the 200 free (1:55.43) and 2nd in the 500 free (5:25.02)
  • Patrick Roberts (East Aurora) was 2nd in the 200 fly (2:18.58)
  • Jazz Widney (Tulsa, OK) was 2nd in the 50 free (22.65)

The 200 free relay team of Perry, Aldewereld, Widney, and Yates set a new school record with a time of 1:30.07 while the 200 medley relay team (Perry, Yates, Fletcher, and Aldewereld) won in 1:37.19

Austin Miller (Hornell) won the 3m diving competition with a score of 248 while Samuel Ricci (Oaks, PA) was 2nd in the 1m diving (246.50) and the 3m (232.65).

The Pioneers will return to action on Friday when they host Fredonia at Alfred University at 6 p.m.
