Pioneers Could Not Overcome Third Quarter Rally

Pittsburgh, PA – The Alfred State women's basketball team competed to the very end, but it was not enough against Carlow University in a 62-52 loss. The Pioneers drop to 3-12 overall and 2-6 in conference play.

Three pioneers scored in double figures as Jaiden Williams led the way with 13 points. Sarah Somers added 10 points and 10 rebounds while Josie Barton provided 10 points, 2 assists, and 2 steals off the bench.

Alfred State started the game with a 13-8 lead in the first quarter before Carlow was able to tighten up the score to take the lead going into half 35-24. Early foul trouble also plagued the Pioneers throughout the second quarter.

In the third quarter, Carlow came out with amplified pressure and the Pioneers were cold from the field, giving the Celtics a 17-9 advantage. Even though Alfred State was able to cut the deficit several times in the fourth quarter, the Pioneers were not able to overcome.

The Pioneers look to take on Penn State Behrend in a Wednesday matchup at Orvis Gymnasium.
