Pioneers Could Not Hold Off Bobcats Fourth Quarter Push

Pittsburgh, PA- Alfred State women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought game against Pitt Greensburg 79-66. The Pioneers now hold a 3-16 record on the season.

Sarah Somers led the way with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Jenna George and Taylor Searle added 12 points each, as George also grabbed nine rebounds. Josie Barton made her first start of the season and scored nine points.

The Pioneers got off to a slow start as the bobcats took a 12-4 lead. Jaiden Williams knocked down a three, then Jenna George hit a jumper to cut the lead down to 14-9. From there, each team would trade buckets as Greensburg held a 22-15 lead into the second quarter.

The Bobcats were able to push their lead to 10 in the second quarter for a 39-29 lead going into halftime.

ASC went on a run in the third quarter outscoring Greensburg 21-9. Searle got the run started with a layup. On the next, Pios possession Somers fought through contact to make a layup, then hit the free throw to make it a 39-34 game. After getting another stop, George added a layup, followed by a steal and another layup to make it a one-point game, 39-38. A few possessions later, Somers tallied another layup and free throw before a Josie Barton layup tied the game at 48-48. Then as the time expired in the third quarter, Somers gave the Pios the 50-48 lead.

The Bobcats made their run in the fourth to take the game 79-66.
