DeWall Finishes 3rd at RIT Invitational

Jacob DeWall (Waterloo) continued his solid freshman season with a 3rd place at the 15 team RIT Invitational on Saturday. The Pioneers scored 42.5 points to earn 11th place.

DeWall was 5-1 with five pins on the day in the heavyweight bracket. He started the day with a pin of Mi-Andre Hughes (RIT) in 31 seconds. He fell into the consolation bracket after falling the quarterfinals. He started his run to 3rd place with a pin of teammate Nick Barrett in 4:21. He pinned Cameren Smith (Worcester Polytechnic) in 2:58, and Niko Diakides (Worcester Polytechnic) in 57 seconds to earn a rematch with John O'Brien (Trinity) in the 3rd place match. In the rematch, DeWall got the better of O'Brien and pinned him in 1:33 to earn 3rd place. This is the second straight tournament DeWall has placed (he was 6th at the NYS Championships).

Jesse Pitoni (Churchville Chili) won a pair of decisions at 133. He won 6-3 over steven Pocze (Oneonta) and a 6-5 over Devyn Giovengo (Thiel).

Anthony Miraglia (Byron Bergen) was 3-2 on the day at 157. After falling in his first match he rattled off three wins to advance to the 5th round of the consolation bracket. He earned a pair of medical forfeit victories and defeated Michael McGowan (RIT) 9-5.

Blake Ilges (Canisteo Greenwood) was 2-2 in the 174 lb. weight class. He won 13-2 over Decian Williams (Worcester Polytechnic) in his opening match and then pinned Alijah Carter in 1:48 in a consolation bracket match.

Nicholas Barrett (Avoca) was 2-2 in the heavyweight bracket. After falling in a tight opening match in a tie breaker he pinned Chris Serafini (Oswego) in 2:05 and Samuel Berger (Oneonta) in 1:25.

The Pioneers wrap up the 2019 portion of their season next weekend with a pair of dual matches. They travel to Penn State Behrend (7 p.m.) on Saturday and host Alvernia (1 p.m.) on Sunday.
