Q & A with Megan - featuring wrestler Kyle Fitzgerald

Q & A with Megan: Featuring Kyle Fitzgerald

Alfred State sport management major Megan Gridley recently interviewed junior Kyle Fitzgerald in her third installment of Q & A with Megan. Fitzgerald and the Pioneers head to the NCAA Mideast Regionals this weekend at Ithaca College.

Why did you choose wrestling as a sport to continue in college? I chose to wrestle in college mainly because it is my favorite sport and I was unsatisfied with how my high school wrestling career ended.

What is your favorite thing about wrestling? My favorite aspect of wrestling is being able to face opponents one on one, whether I win or lose is determined solely on my performance.

Who is your biggest motivator? It is hard to choose just one person, either Coach Siggs (Signorelli) or my family.

What is your biggest goal that you have achieved or wanted to achieve in wrestling? My biggest goal in wrestling would to be to place at nationals, and I have yet to do that.

How do you prepare for a match? For me the best way to prepare for a match is to get a hard workout in beforehand so I am focused and compete at a higher level of intensity.

If you have ever had a setback in your athletic career, how did you manage to get through it? One of setbacks would be tearing my mcl early in the season, but I overcame this with help of the trainers. After working with them I was able to come back healthy and ready to compete again.

Why did you choose Alfred State College for athletics and academics? I liked the fact that Alfred State had both my program and a wrestling team, also I like the small-town environment.

What is your favorite sport to watch besides wrestling? Football, partially because I used to play in high school, and because I like to support my friends on the team.

What is your favorite color? Blue

What is your favorite drink? Body Armor, especially after weigh ins.
