Pioneers Finish 10th at NYS Championships

The Alfred State men's track and field team field team finished 10th at the 2014 New York State Collegiate Track & Field Championships held at St. John Fisher.  Dane Dechow (Randolph) led the Pioneers by winning the 400 hurdles.

400 hurdle champion Dane Dechow Dechow won the 400 hurdles with a time of 55.45.  He finished ahead of Alex Delaney (RPI) who finished in 55.82.  Dechow had entered Saturday's final with the 3rd fastest time in the preliminaries (56.78).

Josiah Thomas (Rochester/John Marshall) was 3rd in the triple jump with a leap of 13.88 m. while Leandro DelRosario (Brooklyn/Thomas Edison) was 3rd in the shot put with a throw of 14.51 m.

The 4 x 400 relay team of Dechow, Zach Woodard (South Jefferson), Thomas, and Nate Andres (Pioneer) finished 3rd in 3:22.51 while the 4 x 100 relay team of Thomas, John Adewumi (Brooklyn, NJ), Woodard, and Desmond Chambers (Gates Chili) finished 4th in 43.35. 

The 4 x 400 relay team's performance and DelRosario's throw in the shot put qualified for the ECAC Championships.

The Pioneer men scored 40 points to earn 10th place.  RPI won the event with 162.5 points followed by Rochester (142), Ithaca (101), RIT (73), Utica (63.5), St. John Fisher (59), Union (58), St. Lawrence (50), and Cobleskill (42). Alfred State finished ahead of Alfred (27), Nazareth (26), and Hamilton (14).

On the women's side both the 4 x 100 relay (4:16.05) and the 4 x 400 relay (52.54) finished 10th.  In both relays Diane Sill (Kendall), Brianna Brynes (Jordan Elbridge), Madison McDonald (Lansing) and Dayonna Holmes (Rochester/Charlotte) teamed up.

The Pioneers will have ten days off before they travel to RPI to compete in the ECAC Championships, May 15 & 16.
