Wasps Sweep Pioneers

Emory & Henry completed a four-game series sweep as they held Alfred State to two runs and ten hits in a Sunday doubleheader. The Wasps earned 10-1 and 7-1 victories to improve to 6-7 on the year.

The Wasps jumped out to a 5-0 lead after four inning after plating two runs in the 2nd and 3rd and a single run in the 4th. Rafael Perozo (Bronx/St. Raymond) drove in the lone run in the first game with a RBI single in the 5th. Emory & Henry put the game out of reach with five more runs in the 6th.

Eli Straw led E&H with a 2 for 4, 2 RBI day. The Wasps also took advantage of four Pioneer errors. The Pioneers were held to just four hits. Austin Baker (Canisteo Greenwood) collected the lone extra base hit, a double in the 6th.

Straw hit a two-run homer in the 1st, his second of the day, to open the scoring in game two. Dan Woodward (Honeoye) answered with a solo homer of his own in the 2nd but the Wasps took full control of the game with a four run 3rd inning. Straw collected a two-run double to key the inning.

Straw finished 2 for 4 with 4 RBI while Zach Smith and Hunter Jeffries each collected a pair of hits. Woodward finished 2 for 3 with the solo homer while Jesse Swan (Campbell Savona) was 2 for 3. 

The Pioneers will play next Sunday as they open up play at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, SC. They battle Lancaster Bible at 3 p.m. in their Spring Break trip.
