Ten Pioneers Honored by the USCAA

Ten members of the Alfred State football team have named to the All-USCAA team. Six were 1st team selections and four were named to the 2nd team.

Josh Ashley (Brooklyn/Grand Street Campus), Khris Greggs (Rochester/Aquinas), Jeffrey Andrews (Randolph), John Lauretti (Seaford), Brandon Davis (Lansing), and Steven Hubick (Fountain Hills, AZ) were named 1st team while Sam VanValkenburg (Sherman), Jordan Jones (Poughkeepsie/FD Roosevelt), Ke'Shawn Pettway (Buffalo/Hutch Tech), and Dominiq Bouska (Elkton, MN/Southland) were 2nd team selections.

Offensive Accolades

  • Ashley, a junior wide receiver, caught 23 passes for a team best 380 yards on the season. He caught three touchdowns on the season as well. He also accumulated 282 yards in kick returns.
  • Greggs, a junior wide receiver, caught a team high 31 passes for 313 yards and two touchdowns. He also accumulated 649 yards on kickoff returns and 30 on punt returns.
  • Jones, a freshmen, caught nine passes for 103 yards and a touchdown from his tight end position. He was also key contributor to the offensive line.
  • Andrews, sophomore, and VanValkenburg, a freshmen, were key members of the offensive line for the Pioneers. Both players hardly came off the field and each continued to grow game by game.

Defensive Accolades

  • Hubick, a senior safety, led the Pioneers with 110 tackles, 58 solo and 6.5 tackles for a loss. He also picked off two passes, had one sack, and blocked a kick. He is the first Pioneer in the NCAA DIII era to record 100 or more tackles.
  • Davis, a sophomore linebacker, was second the team with 99 tackles, 25 solo and 3.5 for a loss. He was credited with one sack, one fumble recovery, and one forced fumble. 
  • Lauretti, a sophomore on the defensive line, was 3rd on the team with 58 tackles, 17 solo and 8.5 for a loss. He also finished with four sacks.
  • Pettway, a freshmen defensive back, played in all 10 games and finished with 33 tackles, 30 solo. He was credited with two pass break-ups.

Special Team Accolades

  • Bouska, a junior, punted 50 times this season for 1,827 yards (36.5 average). Six of his punts were over 50 yards and five of his punts were inside the 20. His long of the season was 57 yards. 

The Pioneers open up 2017, the first season as a member of the ECFC, on August 31st at the Coast Guard Academy.
