Lady Pioneers Split Wild Doubleheader

Lady Pioneers Split Wild Doubleheader

The Alfred State softball team split a wild doubleheader at Erie CC on Tuesday afternoon.  The Lady Pioneers won the opener 11-8 in 10 innings but fell 11-8 in the nightcap.

After seven innings, the Pioneers and Kats were tied at 3-3.  Each team scored a single run in the 8th and 9th innings before Alfred exploded for six runs to grabe a 11-5 lead.  Erie responded with three runs of their own and had the tying run at the plate when Clarissa Swain (Dansville) recorded a strike out to end the game.

Aubri Mosier (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) was 3 for 6 with 3 RBI while Kristen Potter (Harrison Valley, PA/Northern Potter) drove in two runs.

Erie jumped out to a 8-0 lead in the nightcap heading into the 5th before the Lady Pioneers rallied.  Alfred couldn't fully recover and fell in their final Region III contest of the season.

Potter and Katie Jackson (Troy, PA/Troy) were each 2 for 4 with a RBI while Claire Hartman (Alden) was 2 for 4.  Mosier and Rachel Slentz (Edmeston) each drove in two runs.

The Lady Pioneers were scheduled to play Penn College on Thursday but the game has been cancelled.  Alfred wraps the 2013 season with a 8-26 overall record.
