Corrao and Kruger Collect Three Hits

The Alfred State softball team fell in a pair of games on Tuesday afternoon at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach, SC. The Pioneers lost a tight 3-1 game to Sarah Lawrence and were tripped up 14-4  by Bay Path in the nightcap.

In the opener, Sarah Lawrence scored a pair of runs in the 7th to break a 1-1 tie. Taryn Penna led off the 7th with a triple, her second of the game, and scored on a RBI single by Sarah Shapiro. Shapiro scored an insurance run when Kamaron McNair single through the left side.

Penna hit a sac fly in the 1st inning to start the scoring but Stormi Kruger (Medina) tied it right up with a RBI ground out in the bottom of the inning that plated Melissa Barber (Nassau/Catholic Central) who had doubled to lead off the inning.

Mickayla Cunningham allowed just four hits in the complete game victory while Jordan Leonard (Lancaster) scattered seven hits in seven innings of work for the Pioneers.

No Pioneer had more than one hit while Penna, Shapiro, and McNair all had two hits for the Gryphons.

In the nightcap, Bay Path scored four runs in the 4th and then scored three runs in the 5th, 6th, and 7th en route to a 14-4 victory.

After the Wildcats scored a run on a passed ball in the 1st, the Pioneers answered with a pair of runs. Kruger drove in a run on a RBI infield single and Zoe Derr (Elmira Heights/Thomas Edison) scored when she combined with Kruger on a double steal. Aubri Mosier (Rome, PA) and Trisha Shingleton (Byron Bergen) collected RBI singles in the 6th. 

Annie Corrao (Grand Island) was 2 for 4 while Kruger was 2 for 3 for the Lady Pioneers. The Pioneers collected eight hits in the game.

Keyla Oliveras had a big day for the Wildcats finishing 4 for 5 while Marissa Sarna-McCarthy, Jailine Ruiz, and Lilly West were each 3 for 5. West had a game high 4 RBI.

The Pioneers are back in action tomorrow when they battle Wisconsin Stout at 9:30 a.m. and Mt. St. Vincent at 11:30 a.m.
