ASC Opens Conference Play With A Sweep Over Hilbert.

Alfred, NY- Alfred notches their fourth sweep with tonight's 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-22) victory. The Pioneers move to 8-6 on the season and 1-0 against conference foes.

Racquel Gerstenberger led the way on offense as she tallied 16 kills, three aces, and five digs. Nayomie Ferrer Santiago notched 27 assists and eight digs, while Caley Larsen tallied 10 digs. Alayna Tomlinson also put in a great performance notching seven kills and nine digs.

Gerstenberger got the first set start for the Pio's with a kill and Ferrer followed with an ace to tie the set at 2-2. Caitlyn Gilman would give them their first lead with a kill. A few plays later, ASC would go on a 7-1 run to take the 14-9. Following a few Hawk points, Gerstenberger and Gabriella Thurmond sparked a 6-1 run with a kill each for the 20-14 lead. The Pioneers would go on the take the set behind kills from Thurmond, Gerstenberger, and Ferrer.

ASC carried that late momentum into the second set for the 2-0 set lead. In the final set, the Hawks tried rally. Joining the action late in the set, Hilbert led 19-15. Following a Pioneer timeout, Alfred would go one a 4-1 run to cut the deficit to one. Summer Mattison start the run with a kill, Gerstenberger followed with an ace. Then a play later, Mattison added another kill before Kelsey Walker put in a kill. That forced a Hawks timeout, after the timeout Tomlinson tallied two kills, and the Hawks made two errors to give ASC the 23-21 lead. Erin Gregoire then gave Alfred set and match point, before Gregoire and Gerstenberger notched a block to secure the win.
