Pioneers Top Express In A Reverse Sweep

Aurora, NY- Three Pioneers tallies double-doubles in a five setter thriller win against Wells (15-25, 20-25, 25-20, 25-16, 15-12). Alfred State moves to 11-7 on the season and 4-1 against conference foes.

Racquel Gerstenberger led the way on offense with 17 kills and 16 digs, while Alayna Tomlinson also notched a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs. Erin Gregoire added 10 kills as well, and Adeline Milligan and Caley Larsen combined for 34 digs. Nayomie Ferrer Santiago came away with 43 assists and 22 digs.

Wells got started fast taking the first two sets. In set three, the Pioneers responded by starting the set 6-3. A few plays later, Gerstenberger tallied three kills and Ferrer put in an ace for a 12-6 lead. Then a couple plays later, the Pio's went on a 7-1 run as Gregoire and Gerstenberger notched two kills each. They would cut the Wells set score lead down to 2-1.

ASC carried that momentum into set four to tie the match at 2-2. Then in set five, took a 5-4 lead off a Tomlinson kill and never looked back. From there they went on a 5-1 run to take a commanding 10-5 run. A few plays later, Gerstenberger gave the Pioneers set and match point with a kill. Then Ferrer end the game with an ace.
