Slow 2nd Half Costs Pioneers

Ryan Gentile (Spencerport) and Josh Reding (Spencerport) each had 26 points but Alfred State went cold in the 2nd half and fell 80-71 to Medaille on Wednesday evening.

The Pioneers shot 54.2% from the field, connected on five 3-pointers, and hit 8 of 9 foul shots as they built as many as an eleven point led in the 1st half. They entered halftime with a 39-32 advantage. The tables turned in the 2nd half as the Mavericks shot 54.5%, hit four 3-pointers, and connected on 20 of 25 foul shots to rally and take the victory. Key to their success was a 13-0 run. In the 2nd half, ASC was held to 35.7% shooting from the field.

Gentile connected on six 3-pointers (6 for 11) and finished the day with 26 points to go along with seven boards. Reding hit four 3-pointers (4 for 9) and was 9 for 10 from the foul line to finish with 26 points. He chipped in six assists.

Rodney Graves led a trio of Mavericks that scored 20 or more. Graves finished with 23 points while Jonathan Smith and Brandon Roach each had 20. Smith added 14 boards.

The Pioneers wrap up the season this weekend with a pair of games. They travel to La Roche on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip-off and then return home on Sunday to take on Franciscan at 4 p.m.
