Chambers and Johnson Win Titles at the Houghton Invitational.
Cameron Chambers (East Rochester) and Jesse Johnson (Horseheads) each won individual events as the Alfred State Track & Field team opened up their season at the Houghton College Highlander Invitational.
Chambers registered the top time in the 800 m run, besting a field of 19 athletes in 2:00.74 while Johnson won the high jump with a leap of 1.81 m. Johnson was also 5th in the 60 m hurdles (9.64).
Esaias Brumfield (Warners/West Genesee) was 3rd in the 60 m dash (7.37), Corey Seymour (Dryden) was 5th in the long jump (6.17 m) and 8th in the 200 m (24.32), Shawn Rosa (Middletown) was 5th in the 400 m (53.78), Derek Walter (Lancaster) was 6th (9.74) in the 60 m hurdles, and Waleed Muhammad (Manhattan/LaSalle Academy) was 8th in the long jump (5.76 m).
The 4x200 relay team of Cameron Howard (Brockport), Seymour, Johnson, and Brumfield finished in 1:37.60.
As the schedule stands now, the Pioneers will be back in action on April 9th when they open the outdoor season as they host the Allegany County Classic.
