Swim Team Dives into New Season
The Alfred State swimming team was busy during their opening week of competition. The Pioneers battle Franciscan (OH) University and Bethany (WV) University in a tri-meet on Friday evening and then swam at Bethany on Saturday morning.
On Friday, Kyle Sporysz (Cuba Rushford) was the lone Pioneer with a victory. He won the 50 free in 24.90. Casey Hopkins (Hamburg) was 2nd in the 100 free (55.13) and the 200 free (2:02.88) while Josh Stellrecht (Oakfield Alabama) was 2nd in the 1000 free (12:22.99) and the 500 free (5:59.57).
On the women's side, Maggie McBurney (Jamesville-Dewitt) finished 4th in the 200 free (2:32.98).
At Bethany on Saturday, Danielle Roberts (Lockport) had a solid day winning the 50 free (29.79) and the 100 free (1:07.08).
Stellrecht won the 500 free (5:54.40) and was 2nd in the 1650 free (20:57.63), Hopkins won the 200 back (2:20.74) and was 2nd in the 200 free (2:01.38), and Sporysz was 2nd in the 50 free (25.07).
The blue & gold head to Monroe CC next Saturday for a tri-meet with the Tribunes and Buffalo State.
