Pioneers Impressive at Roc City Classic

The Alfred State track & field team had several impressive performances at the Roc City Classic hosted at Nazareth College.  Dane Dechow (Randolph) led the way by qualifying for the ECAC Championships in the 400 hurdles.

Dechow was the event champion in the 400 hurdles with a ECAC qualifying time of 56.16.  His time is the 7th best in school history.

Josiah Thomas (Rochester/John Marshall) won the triple jump (13.98 m) and was part of the 2nd place 4x400 relay team (3:27.48) and the 3rd place 4x100 relay team (43.74).  He teamed with Dechow, Zach Woodward (South Jefferson), and Jordan Friedman (Clarkstown South) in the 4x400 and with Nate Andres (Pioneer), Woodard, and John Adewumi (Brooklyn/Bordertown) in the 4x100.

Friedman was 3rd in the pole vault (4.25 m) while Brandon Teboe (Falconer) was 6th (3.95 m), and Jason Charlette (Midlakes) was 8th (3.50 m).  

James Westman (Fonda Fultonville) was 3rd in the steeplechase (10:43.34), Leandro DelRosario (Brooklyn/Thomas Edison) was 4th in the shot put, Thomas was 6th in the 200 (23.46), and Woodard was 9th in the 100 (11.67).

On the women's side, Dayonna Holmes (Rochester/Charlotte) won the 200 in 26.56.  She also was part of the 4th place 4x400 relay (4:24.32) and the 6th place 4x100 (51.85).  She teamed with Brianna Byrnes (Jordan Elbridge), Madison McDonald (Lansing), and Diane Sill (Kendall) in each race.  Sill also finished 9th in the 400 hurdles in 1:13.12.

The Pioneers were one of 17 schools competing in the non-scoring meet.

Alfred State travels to the Geneseo Invitational next Saturday.  The meet is slated for a 10 a.m. start.
