Bialecki Reaches 1,000 Point Plateau

Catherine Bialecki (Alfred Almond) scored 21 points and eclipsed the 1,000 point plateau as the Alfred State women's basketball team battle Pitt Bradford on Wednesday evening. The Pioneers fell behind early and could never fully recover as the Panthers captured the 82-62 victory.

UPB jumped out to an early lead by forcing eight 1st quarter turnovers as they raced to a 24-15 advantage. The Panthers added to their lead in a high scoring 2nd quarter and led by 12, 50-38, at the half. Alfred State trailed 68-49 after the 3rd quarter but came out in the 4th quarter and scored the first 11 points to cut the lead to 68-60 with just over five minutes later. After a Bradford timeout, the Panthers took back control of the game and scored the next 14 points to put the game out of reach.

Bialecki scored six points in the 1st quarter to hit the 1,000 point plateau. She finished the day with 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds and eight blocks. Kelsey Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) finsihed with 19 points while Janae Gibson (Bronx/Pelham Prep finished with 13. The blue and gold shot 41.9% from the field and 55.6% from the foul line. 

Jennifer Isenberg led four Panthers (9-8) in double figures with 25 points and 14 rebounds. Shaelyn Snipes finished with 15, Bri Wells added 12 points and eight assists, and Ali Rinfrette chipped in 10 points, eight assists, and seven steals. UPB shot 41.2% from the field, connected on five 3-pointers, and hit seven of their nine foul shots. They held 53 to 40 advantage on the boards (22 to 11 on the offensive boards).

Bialecki joins Brittney Brooks and Hailey Witchella in the 1,000 point club. Bialecki has played in 55 games during her career and is averaging 18.5 points per contest. She has also 593 rebounds and 207 blocks.

The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday when they host Washington Adventist at 7 p.m. Prior to the game the athletic department will honor Bialecki on her milestone.
