Gatlon, Peterson, and Moshenek Place at NYS Championships

Mike Galton (Warsaw), Sean Peterson (Islip) and Elijah Moshenek (Ringgold, VA) placed at the NYS Championships at SUNY Cortland. As a team, Alfred State finished 8th with 46 team points.

Galton wrestled to a 4th place finish at 174 lbs. He pinned Jared Zenie (Brockport) in his opening match and defeated Ben Dougherty (RIT) 8-3 to advance to the semifnals. He lost a tight 3-2 decision to Demitreus Henry (Cortland), the #8 wrestler in DIII but was able to bounce back to wini 11-3 over Ross Abrams (Jamestown CC) to earn a place in the 3rd place match. He fell to Draygan Colonese (Merchant Marine) to finish 3-2 on the day.

Galton now has earned All-State honors twice. He was 8th during the 2018 NYS Championships.

Peterson bounced back from an opening loss and finished 5th in the 141 lb. weight class. He pinned Cameron Groff (Oneonta) in 1:55, pinned Ryan Holt (Cortland) in 2:01, and adavnced to the consolation semifinals with a 8-3 decision over Francis Whitehouse (Brockport). He lost a tight 5-4 decision to Joey Pilliteri (Jamestown CC) but bounced back with a 4-1 win over Cameron Pleninger (Merchant Marine) to win 5th place.

Moshenek won 8-3 over Josh Post (RIT) to start the day at 133 lbs. After falling in the quarterfinals to Zach Levey (Brockport), he bounced back with two victories, 4-0 over Chris Dean (RIT) and a win via disqualification over Dylan Earl (Ithaca). He lost his last two matches, 9-2 to Anthony Romero (Oneonta) and 5-4 to Post to finish 3-3 and earn 6th.

Adam Brown (Cicero North Syracuse) picked up a pair of wins on the day as well. He pinned Adam Sanchez (Jamestown CC) and won 8-2 over Kole Taylor (Brockport).

Alfred State is back on the mat on December 4th when they compete in the RIT Invitational.
