Last Minute Goal Lifts Spartans

In a physical battle played mostly in the midfield, D'Youville took advantage of a free kick opportunity in the final minute to earn a 1-0 victory over Alfred State on Friday evening.

After Alfred State was called for a foul just outside of the box, Brandon Pauly lined up the free kick. Pauly struck a liner to the top right corner with just 37 seconds left to lift the Spartans to the victory.

D'Youville held a 10-7 shot advantage in the contest. Brett Matthews made two saves to earn the shutout while Kenneth Allport (Hilton) saved two shots.

The game featured 33 fouls (19-14) and four cards. D'Youville had nine (eight in the 1st half) corner kick opportunities while Alfred State didn't have a corner kick chance.

Alfred State is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Elmira for a 4 p.m. contest.
