Pioneers Rally for Wild Tie

Brandon Holley (Livonia) scored with 27 seconds remaining to cap a three-goal rally as the Alfred State men's soccer team tied Penn State Beaver 3-3 on Sunday. The Pioneers had numerous chances in OT but could not get the game-winner.

Penn State Beaver jumped took a 3-0 lead behind a penalty kick goal by Julius Illiano in the 39th minute, a goal by Ryan Christy in the 42nd minute, and a Marcus Smith goal in the 55th minute.

Takara Higashi (Japan) got the Pioneers on the board when he found the back of the net with his first goal of the season after getting a pass from Holley. Holley scored his first of the game in the 74th minute when he followed up a Mitchell Porter shot that rang off the post.

Porter set up Holley's game-tying goal in the final minute. He sent a long pass that Holley was able to track down. He slipped a shot off the post and into the the net.

Holley and the Pioneers had a few chances in each of the overtime sessions but were unable to capitalize. Holley finished the day with two goals and an assist.

Alfred State held a 26 to 16 shot advantage in the contest including a 17 to 9 advantage after the 1st half. Kenneth Allport (Hilton) made seven saves for Alfred and Rashitha Perera made nine saves for Beaver.

The Pioneers head to Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest.
