The Alfred State Softball team dropped today's contest to Alfred University 10-2.
In the first inning the Pioneers went down in order and the Saxons scored 3 runs on 4 hits in the bottom half. In the 2nd inning Alfred State mustered a leadoff hit from Nicole Youngberg, but didn't bring her around to score in the inning. The Saxons scored another 3 runs in the bottom half of the inning on two hits and two Pioneer fielding errors.
Alfred State scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning on back-to-back doubles from Audrey Farrell and Kailey Wonica. The doubles came with two outs in the inning and gave life to the Pioneer offense. AU tacked on more runs in the next 3 innings, eventually ending the game early in the 6th inning.
The Pioneers play again on Thursday with a doubleheader against cross-county rival, Houghton.
