Pioneers Split in Home Opener

The Alfred State Pioneers Softball team split against Houghton losing 11-0 in game 1 and winning 9-1 in game 2.

In Game 1

In the second inning, Houghton's Danielle Nelson blasted a 2 run home run to start the scoring for the Highlanders, The score remained 2-0 until the highlanders got hot with the bats and scored 3 runs In the 4th inning and 6 more runs in the 5th inning. The Pioneers could not get anything going offensively and were held hitless throughout the game. Houghton's Kayla Loomis went 5 innings, striking out 8 and walking 3 in a CG no-hitter. Lauryn Engle, Sarah Boyce and Felicia Capito were the only baserunners for the Pioneers in game 1.

In Game 2

The Pioneers started out strong in game 2, scoring 3 runs in the first inning and 4 runs in the second. Audrey Farrell got the scoring going with a huge double to right center field to score Sarah Boyce. In the second inning Nicole Youngberg singled to center field to score Jenna George to make the score 4-0. Abby Beidel had a stellar pitching performance for the pioneers, going 5 strong innings only surrendering 2 hits and striking out 3 batters. The Pioneers played perfect defense behind her making 0 errors.

Audrey Farrell went 3-3 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs

Nicole Youngberg went 2-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs

We will see the Pioneers back in action again with a home conference double header, this Saturday April 8th against Pitt.- Bradford. Game 1 action will begin at 1:00 PM at Pioneer Field.
