Pioneers Drop Double Header

The Alfred State Softball was unable to pull off a win today against Penn State Altoona in their conference double-header. In game 1, The Lions won 7-0 and in game 2, 16-8.

In Game 1:

Penn State Altoona opened scoring in the bottom of the second inning with three runs. They continued their scoring in the third and fourth before putting one more run on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Nicole Youngberg had two hits in the game, with Sarah Boyce, Audrey Farrell, Faith Capito, and Felicia Capito each adding one hit.

In Game 2:

Alfred State opened the first inning with two runs off an Farrell RBI and then Audrey reaching the home plate off a Capito single. However, Penn State Altoona responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning. That remained to be a trend in the third, with the Pioneers scoring three, but the Lions scoring five runs. Alfred State got within reach of a tie after scoring three unanswered in the top of the fourth, but Penn State Altoona held the Pioneers scoreless in the top of the fifth before scoring five runs and a ending on a homer from Lucas to end the game. Although the game did not go the Pioneers way, they had 11 hits and 7 RBI in the game. Felicia Capito and Lauryn Engle led Alfred State with two hits each and two RBI.

The Pioneers will continue conference play as they host La Roche on Saturday April 29th with gametimes at 1:00pm and 3:00pm.
