Pioneers Sweep Conference Games

Alfred State Softball swept Hilbert College in a conference double-header this afternoon. In game 1, Alfred State won 14-1 and 22-7 in game 2. 

In Game 1: 

Alfred State started off hot from the start, putting 12 runs on the board to open the first inning and holding Hilbert to zero. On top of throwing an impressive game including six strikeouts, Audrey Farrell (Linwood) had five RBI in the game. Nicole Youngberg (Falconer, NY) and Felicia Capito (Cuba, NY)  each added two RBI as well. The Pioneers had 16 hits on the day on 14 runs with only 1 strikeout. They only gave up one run to the Hawks in the bottom of the fourth inning on just five hits total.  

In Game 2: 

Although the Pioneers continued their trend of runs, Hilbert was able to keep Alfred State at just three runs to start the first inning before both teams put one run each up in the third inning. However, the Pioneers continued their success by putting four more runs on the board in the fourth inning. The Hawks managed to respond after the Pioneers put two more runs up in the top of the fifth by scoring six runs, their highest of the day. Alfred State went on to score one run in the sixth before dominating the seventh with eleven runs to seal the victory. Of their 22 runs, Farrell continued to lead the pack with five runs and six RBI. Sarah Boyce (Cortland, NY) and Youngberg each chipped in four runs and three RBI each. The Pioneers had 21 RBI in the game, the highest amount they have recorded in a single-game all season.  

The Pioneers will look to face up against Penn State Altoona on Thursday April 27th with gametimes at 1:00pm and 3:00pm.
