Total Team Effort Leads Pioneers to Victory

The Alfred State women's basketball team got contributions from all eight Lady Pioneers dressed in a 66-56 victory over Niagara CCC.  The blue & gold are now 13-7 overall and 5-2 in Region III Division II play.

Eleasha Wiggins (Brooklyn/Bedford Academy) connected on four 3-pointers and led the Lady Pioneers with 19 points.  She also grabbed eight boards.  Destiny Brito (Manhattan/Park West) chipped in seven points, 11 assists, nine boards, and five steals.

Briana Meehan (Whitesville) finished with 11 points, six boards, and six rebounds while Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) added 11 points and six rebounds.  Jennifer Fedrick (Buffalo/Bennett) rounded out the starting five scoring with eight points.

Kristine Ripson led NCCC with 18 points and 16 rebounds while Jessica Curry had 14 points and 12 rebounds.  Nthanda Longwe came off the bench and had 10 points.

Alfred shot 35.9% from the field and was 6 for 16 from three-point land.  NCCC shot 35.2% and held a 47 to 36 advantage on the boards.  The Lady Pioneers forced the Thunderwolves into 30 turnovers.

The Lady Pioneers are home again on Tuesday when they host Pitt-Titusville at 5:30 p.m. at the Orvis Activities Center.
