Sowers Records 10th Pin in Loss to Oswego

Oswego State won the first four matches of the night and never looked back as the doubled up Alfred State 30-15 on Tuesday evening.  Codie Nichols (Unatego), Bradley Haggerty (Wellsville), and Matthew Sowers (Whitesboro) earned victories for the blue & gold.

Nichols got the Pioneers on the board in the 157 lb. match.  He defeated Kyle Vershay 4-2 in overtime.  Haggerty earned a forfeit victory at 165 lbs. that made the score 18-9 but the Pioneers wouldn't get any closer.  After defeats at 174 and 184, Sowers recorded his 10th pin of the season to cap the Pioneers scoring at 197 lbs.  He pinned Joseph Gorsuch 1:28 into the match.

The Pioneers have a few days off before they head to Penn State on Sunday to compete in the USCAA Championships.  Wrestling is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
