Mongiello finishes 6th, Aldinger and Nichols 8th at NCWA Nationals

Bryan Mongiello (Washingtonville) led the Alfred State contingent at the NCWA National Championship with a 6th place finish. Tyler Aldinger(Alexander), and Codie Nicholas (Unatego) both finished 8th. As a team, the Pioneers finished 12th in the DI standings and 15th overall out of 80 teams.

Mongiello entered Saturday with a 4-1 record. He defeated Zachary Vatalare (Michigan) 3-1 to advance to the 133 lb. semfinals of the consolation bracket. In the semfinals he was defeated by John Lino Estrado (Grand Canyon). In the 5th place match he was defeated Nick Anthony (Central Florida) and he earned 6th place.

Aldinger entered the day with a 5-1 record but suffered an injury in his consolation round 7 match vs. Antonio Martinez (Texas) that forced him to not complete the match and ended his tournament. Aldinger finishes as the 8th place finisher in the 141 lb. weight class.

Nichols was 3-1 in the 157 lb. weight class heading into Saturday's action. He suffered a 11-4 loss to Samuel Kreimier (Air Force Prep) and then lost a hard fought 4-1 decision in the 7th place match to Austen Brower (William and Mary). Nichols closes the season with an 8th place finish.

The Pioneers scored 55 points during the three day event held in Allen, TX. The Championship capped the season for the blue & gold which featured a 1st place finish at the NCWA Northeast Championship and a 2nd place finish at the USCAA Invitational Championship.
