Mongiello Named Athlete of the Week

Bryan Mongiello (Washingtonville) has been named the Alfred State athlete of the week after finishing 6th at the NCWA Nationa Championships in the 133 lb. weight class.  Mongiello was one of three Pioneers that placed in the three-day event and helped lead the blue & gold to a 12th place finish in the DI standings.

Mongiello opened up the championships with with three straight victories to advance to the quarterfinals, 14-1 major decision over Nick Johnson (Tennessee), 5-0 over Zachary Vatalare (Michigan), and a pin of Ryan Hall (South Florida).  He fell in the quarters but rebounded with a 8-7 victory over Tyler Davidson (Navy Prep) and a 3-1 decision over Vatalare.  In the consolation semifinals he fell to 3rd place finisher John Lino Estrada (Grand Canyon) and in the 5th place match he was defeated by Nick Anthony (Central Florida).

Mongiello finishes his freshman campaign as a NCWA All-American with a 12-12 record.
