Mongiello, Aldinger, and Nichols Advance
A trio of Alfred State wrestlers, Bryan Mongiello (Washingtonville), Tyler Aldinger (Alexander), and Codie Nicholas (Unatego) have advanced to the All-American rounds of the NCWA National Championships.
At 133 lbs, Mongiello was able to rebound from a defeat in the quarterfinals to down Tyler Davidson (Navy Prep) 8-7 to continue his tournament. Mongiello battles Zachary Vatalare (Michigan) in the next round. Earlier in the tournament he defeated Vatalere 5-0.
Nichols entered day two of the 157 lb. weight class in the quarterfinals. After falling to Santiago Martinez (Central Florida), Nichols was able to stay alive with a 5-4 victory over Devin Webber (Wichita State). He will take on Samuel Kreimier from Air Force in the 7th round of the consolation bracket.
Aldinger was 3-0 on day two of the 141 lb. consolation bracket. He defeated Brandon Dyer (Shorter) 14-7, Jerdon Helgeson (Washington State) 10-5, and Wesley Adams (Mercer) 11-5. Aldinger takes on Antonio Martinez (Texas) to start action on Saturday.
The Pioneers sit in 11th place in the DI standings. The blue & gold have scored 51.5 points.
Day three of the tournament which features 80 teams begins at 9 a.m. (CST) in Allen, TX.
