Wrestlers Down Penn College

The Alfred State wrestling team defeated Penn College 30-24 to earn their first dual match win of the season. The Pioneers took an early lead and then held off a Wildcats rally.

Michael Boyle (Cooperstown) started the night with a forfeit victory at 125. Ryan Thierman (Portville) pinned Aaron Doll in 2:15 to make it 12-0 Pioneers.

Penn College fought back into the game with victories in five of the next seven matches. Alfred State picked up points as Konnor Kremer (Horseheads) pinned Seth Johnson in 6:03 in the 157 lb. match and Alex Mongillo (Keshequa) picked up a forfeit victory at 174.

Heading into the heavyweight match, Alfred State led 24-22. In the final match of the night Riley Andrews (York) sealed the Pioneers victory with a pin of Pat Fitzgerald in 6:40.

The blue & gold, 1-1 in dual matches this season, are off until December 5th when they travel to the RIT Tournament.
