Lady Pioneers Win NCAA Opener

The women's soccer team started the NCAA era at Alfred State with a 2-1 victory over Lycoming College on Friday evening. Playing in the college's first NCAA Division III contest, the Lady Pioneers jumped out to a 2-0 lead an held off a comeback attempt by the Lady Warriors.

Taylor Reisdorf (Warsaw) scored the first goal of the game and of the season in the 24th minute when she danced around the goalkeeper and found the back of the net.  Keri Teufel (Holbrook/Sachem East) was credited with the assist.

Kali Muhleisen (Alfred Almond) made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute when she intercepted a pass and sent a shot off the inside post and into the net.

Kaityln Gulotta cut the lead to 2-1 in the 55th minute after getting a pass from Emily Truett but Lycoming could not get any closer.

Krista DeCarlo (West Islip) made five saves in net for Alfred.

The Lady Pioneers return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Penn State Behrend for a 7 p.m. contest.
