Strong 2nd Half Leads Behrend Past Lady Pioneers
Penn State Behrend scored two goals in a two-minute span early in the 2nd half to break a 1-1 tie en route to a 4-2 victory over Alfred State on Tuesday evening. The Lady Lions improve to 1-1-1 on the early season while the Lady Pioneers are now 1-1.
Kali Muhleisen (Alfred Almond) got Alfred State on the board early when she scored her second of the season just 5:59 into the contest.
Behrend tied the game at 24:55 on a goal by Alex Bilka to send the game into half knotted at 1-1.
Ten minutes into the 2nd half, the Lions scored twice to give them a lead they would never relinquish. In the 54th minute, Behrend scored on an own goal and then followed that up with a Megan Burgdolt goal at 56:33. Burgdolt's goal came on a long shot that fond the top corner.
Muhleisen scored her second goal of the game at 63:07 after getting a pass from Hannah Holmok (Alfred Almond) to cut it to 3-2.
Ten minutes later Sam Vasy gave the Lions back their two-goal lead after getting a pass in the box from Sam Pace.
Penn State Behrend held a 19 to 3 shot advantage. Lady Pioneer goalie Krista DeCarlo (West Islip) made seven saves in net.
Alfred State returns to action on Friday when they travel to Jamestown CC for a 4 p.m.
