Lady Pioneers Down ESF - Advance to Semifinals
The Alfred State women's soccer team defeated SUNY ESF 4-1 in the quarterfinals of the USCAA National Championships on Thursday afternoon. The Lady Pioneers are now 12-4-1 on the year.
Kali Muhleisen (Alfred Almond) got the blue & gold on the board early when she scored 2:43 into the game after getting a long pass from Ally Vargeson (Addison).
Muhleisen made it 2-0 in the 24th minute when she found the top of the net after getting a pass from Chelsea Dunn (Newfane).
Hannah Holmok (Alfred Almond) made it 3-0 just under three minutes when she cashed in on a penalty kick.
Bridget Cuddihy got the Mighty Oaks on the board and cut the lead to 3-1 in the 54th minute after heading in a pass from Kyna Sanchez.
Kelly Stieve (Brockport) got the Pioneers an insurance goal in the 65th minute when she sent a shot from beyond center stripe that bounced up and over the goalkeepers head.
ESF held a 17 to 14 shot advantage on the day. Krista DeCarlo (West Islip) made 11 saves for the Pioneers.
Alfred State, the #5 seed in the tournament, will play the Maine Fort Kent, the #1 seed, in Friday's semifinals. Opening kick is slated for 3:45 p.m. at Trace Fork's Andrew Jordon Field.
