Alfred State Director of Athletics appointed to NCAA Division III Championships Committee
Alfred State College Director of Athletics Jason Doviak has been appointed to the NCAA Division III Championships Committee, effective January 14, 2024. The term will continue through January 22, 2028.
The Championships Committee handles the oversight of Division III's Championships. The committee reports directly to Management Council on matters such as budgetary recommendations and supervises the Division III championships qualification and selection process; reviews recommendations from sports committees regarding the administration of those championships; and reviews other issues related to the administration of championship events.
Doviak spoke on his recent appointment to the Championships Committee. "I am looking forward to serving the membership and our student-athletes regarding NCAA Division III Championships. One of my ongoing goals is to continually improve our student-athletes experience and I hope to bring some new ideas and enhancements to the table for discussion. The committee has made some outstanding progress over the last few years, and I look forward to working with the committee members to continue that momentum."
The members of the NCAA Championships Committee contribute to the NCAA in many fashions throughout their term. Doviak's general duties will include budgetary recommendations, qualification and/or selection procedures for Division III championships, and reviewing recommendations from Division III sports committees regarding the administration of those championships along with the financial impact. The NCAA Championships Committee will act as the final authority regarding championships matters in Division III that are subject to appeal. The Committee will also appoint the members of the Division III sports committees, subject to the final authority of the Division III Management Council and the Presidents Council.
Doviak's past additional service in the NCAA and it's governing bodies include previously serving on two NCAA National Committees. His past experiences include Committee on Women's Athletics (CWA) where he served as Chair in 2021-22 and the Baseball Committee where he served as Vice-Chair in 2016-17.
