Weekend Preview For Wrestling, Diving, and Track & Field

Alfred, NY- Alfred State has three Athletic Programs headed to Rochester, NY for NCAA Regionals. The men's Wrestling team and Diver Conor Compton are at the RIT for their respective Regional Championships, while both track and field teams are at Nazareth for the All-Atlantic Regional Championships.

Men's Wrestling

The Pioneers are coming off a great season and will be looking for their first NCAA qualifiers since transitioning from the junior college ranks. The team won the AMCC regular season championship, then seven individuals won their respective weight class, including Sean Malenfant who took home the 184 title and was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler and AMCC Wrestler of the Year. Malenfant is ranked fourth in the region, while Zack Levey is looking to become an NCAA qualifier for the second time in his career.

Swimming and Diving

Conor Compton is the lone diver to qualify for the regional meet. He is looking to make it back-to-back year going to the National Tournament down in North Carolina. Compton has put in an incredible year that was capped by him winning the 3-meter and 1-meter boards at the Conference Championships and taking home Allegheny Empire Diver of the Meet as well as AMCC Diver of the Meet.

Track and Field

The Pios has been rewriting the Alfred State record books week in and week out this indoor season. Looking at the men's team, Mekhi Christensen set a new 60-meter dash school record to become an AARTFC qualifier. Then in the opening meet of the season, Greg Raymond became a qualifier in the Weight Throw and Aden Alexander qualified in the triple jump.

Looking on the women's team, Oli Knaynik has been running well this season. She became a qualifier in the 400-meter run. Izzy Popoff is coming off win a conference title in the 1 mile run, on her way to becoming female Track Athlete of the Meet.
