Pioneer Athletes Of The Week

Alfred, NY- This weeks Pioneer Athletes of the Week are Softball's Caley Larsen and Men's Wrestling's Sean Malenfant.

Caley Larsen had a great opening week down in Florida as she went 5-18 at the plate. She batted .278 on the week and came away with six RBIs. She also had a .970 fielding percentage on the week.

Sean Malenfant went 4-2 to become the first All-American for the Pioneers in the NCAA era. Malenfant started his weekend with a 5-0 decision win over Gavin Layman (Ohio Northern). In that match, he notched a takedown, an escape, and a riding time point. He would lose his second match to Sampson Wilkins of Castleton, before getting a 6:15 fall over Trent Furman (NYU) two advance to day two of the tournament. Then on day two, Malenfant notched a 4-2 decision over Jack Ryan of Oneonta State. In that match, his tallied a takedown and an escape. After a loss in his match, he earned a spot in the fifth-place match. Malenfant would end the season with a 10-1 major decision win over Dylan Wellbaum of Adrian. In that match, Malenfant tallied three takedowns, and a riding time point.
