Alfred State Athletics Unveils New Turf Field

The Alfred State Athletic Department has unveiled a new turf playing surface for the 2023-2024 season. The turf includes state-of-the-art technology for both player safety, performance and visual appeal. The new A-Turf Titan DiamondBlade 2.5 system comes with a custom blend technology and balanced infill system of sand and rubber infill installed over a 10mm porous rubber shock pad system. This system will maximize longevity, safety, and playability. Its designed replicate all the best features of a high level, plush natural grass field.

Director of Athletics Jason Doviak spoke about the new turf field. "The new A-Turf DiamondBlade surface is a substantial upgrade from our previous turf and provides our student-athletes with a high-quality playing surface to practice and compete on moving forward.  It was important for us to select a multipurpose turf as we will have five teams competing on this surface and many others utilizing it for practice.  We were also able to add new Musco lighting throughout the stadium which improves our energy efficiency and adds important features such as remote access.  This was an exciting project for us as it completes our rebranding efforts for our athletic facilities on campus with the addition of our logo to midfield."

Football, men's soccer and women's soccer will all compete on the new surface this fall. The newly established men's and women's lacrosse teams will compete starting in the spring of 2025. The Alfred State turf design features white traditional markings for football, gray markings for women's lacrosse, black markings for men's lacrosse, and yellow for both men's and women's soccer. The football endzones are royal blue with gold "Alfred State" and "Pioneers" lettering in each.

The turf removal and installation project took place this past summer. Construction began in June and was completed earlier this August by LG Evans Inc.
